Voice Yourself Shutting Down. Closing thought from Woody
Greetings Friends of Voiceyourself
If you are reading this most likely you are one of our legion of supporters who has helped make Voiceyourself a vibrant meaningful community for many years. To each of you we owe our gratitude and thanks for helping us promote our mission to "be the change you wish to see in the world."
It is hard to fathom that Laura and I started VYS back in 2001 after a joyous challenging 1500 mile bike trek we shared with close friends and family to spread the word about Simple Organic Living. Along the way we met passionate, committed, innovative people doing great things. So we decided to bring the message to a wider audience. It was a different world then - pre 9/11.
Unfortunately the mission to promote sustainable healthy living and to restore balance and harmony to our earth took on an even more urgent meaning. The disturbing turmoil in world politics demanded we be even more vigilant and outspoken about our values to ensure a future for our children that does not embrace acceptance of world leaders' actions without raising questions about our country's propensity toward violence as a solution to differences; indiscriminate destruction of our natural resources to benefit corporate coffers; or promotion of consumerism without consciousness. The timing was right to offer a place to come to for information exchange and resource outreach. While much has been accomplished, the work continues.
But now after much thoughtful consideration we have decided it is time to close down Voiceyourself as a day-to-day operation. This is as disappointing to me as it is for my collaborators but it is the right thing for many reasons. Every relationship has beginnings and endings that are not a single moment. It is a cumulative experience from which we can choose to grow and change. I have changed and I will cherish what I have learned from our experiences here, some good, some harsh. But in the spirit of change we must take a new direction from all that we have learned here to further our collective mission in other ways.
We are most appreciative of the leadership given to us by passionate talented colleagues at Google, Riverkeeper, Appalachian Voices, Vote Hemp, Waterkeeper Alliance, the Lower Eastside Girl's Club, the Chandler Sky Foundation, the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance, Greenpeace and Healthy Child, Healthy World. For other resources please check out the links here.
Caring and sharing are what we need most right now. So get involved in a way that will help others see you as a leader. I still believe in the words of Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
Thank you for taking the time to care.
I'll be seeing you around.
Peace,
Woody
